Tocchet Earns NHL Coaching Honor
Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet is the 2023-24 recipient of the Jack Adams Award, given by the NHL Broadcasters Association to the league's top coach. Tocchet is the third Canucks coach to win the award, following Pat Quinn (1979-80) and Andrew Brunette (2021-22).
Tocchet was named a finalist for the award along with Boston Bruins head coach Jim Montgomery and Dallas Stars head coach Peter DeBoer. Tocchet led the Canucks to a 45-33-6 record this season, a significant improvement over the previous season's 32-40-8 record.
Tocchet was widely praised for his ability to turn around the Canucks' fortunes in his first season behind the bench. He implemented a more defensive system and emphasized accountability and hard work.
The Jack Adams Award is voted on by the NHL's 32 general managers. Tocchet received 10 first-place votes, 13 second-place votes, and 9 third-place votes.
Tocchet's win is a testament to his hard work and dedication. He has quickly become one of the most respected coaches in the NHL and is a deserving recipient of the Jack Adams Award.
