Ajax player withdraws from first leg in Poland: Farioli drops regular customer
Summary
Ajax player haakt af voor heenwedstrijd in Polen: Farioli zet streep door basisklant
Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg has withdrawn from the first leg of the Europa League play-off match against Lech Poznan in Poland. He has not tested positive for COVID-19 but, as a close contact, he is required to quarantine.
Trainer John Heitinga had already indicated on Thursday that he would rotate his squad for the first leg in Poland. Stekelenburg would have started under the bar, but now Kjell Scherpen will start.
Consequences for the lineup
The absence of Stekelenburg has consequences for the composition of the Ajax selection. Heitinga had already planned to rotate his squad, but now he has to make one extra adjustment.
It is not yet clear who will take Stekelenburg's place on the bench. Francisco Conceicao, who also did not travel to Poland due to an injury, will probably join the selection again.
